Faithful Farming’s Founder Story
“One of the most important questions when you come to a new place is to ask: What do those people do for a living? Why are certain industries present – and others not? When we look at Paraguay – especially the southern part, you don’t find a lot of industry or production. What you will see are enormous fields of crops. When we came to Paraguay to live here, we took 6 months to drive around the country and talk to many people before deciding to go into the agriculture sector. The presence of highly innovative companies in the field and skilled laborers helped us to make the decision.
So we met and worked with the data until we could find a valid business model. Only one of us had experience in farming – so at first we relied on his expertise. When we had it all together we ran into an unexpected problem: How do you transfer money in a country like Paraguay? You cannot simply open a bank account and bring foreign money. So our first deals felt pretty though – not because of the lack of investors, but the fact that everybody in the banks would run if you told them that you want to move money from outside the country. It took us another 6 months to find a solution for that.
Today we sit together and laugh, still thinking of these times.”
